The high school football playoff landscape is changing.
CIF in San Diego is moving to the system used in the Southern section, where playoff divisions will now be decided at the end of the regular season, and teams will be placed in their respective divisions based upon their results, and the Cal Preps computer metric.
"You're really going up against teams that are within 12 rankings of your playoff bracket," assistant commissioner Todd Cassen said. "You're really looking at reducing the overall difference between teams."
Whether your team is small or large, transfers or homegrown…its all about what you do, and what the computers think of you. It's a move that hopes to create more parity between teams in each division's playoff matchups.
San Pasqual athletic director Andrew Clark supported the move, using last year's thrilling Open Division as evidence.
"We had a great Open Division playoffs...because we didn't determine who was in it before the season started," Clark said. "We take that pool from Division I...now we're doing it from [all the divisions]."
